The University of Arizona

While pursuing my MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from the University of Arizona, I taught:

ENGL 201: Introduction to the Writing of Creative Nonfiction (Spring 2014)
A practical introduction to benchmark contemporary works of nonfiction as well as the principles underlying profound and ethical research, as well as compelling and readable craft skills.

ENGL 109H: Advanced First-Year Composition (Summer 2013, Fall 2013, Spring 2014)
Taught a total of four sections, including one three-week accelerated summer section, and designed curriculum centering on developing craft and analytical skills across genres and fields, with a particular emphasis on research-driven nonfiction and science. Collaborated with other instructors to host end-of-semester academic conferences for students across multiple sections of 109H.

ENGL 101 (New Start): First-Year Composition (Summer 2013)
An introductory composition course designed to introduce high-achieving area high school students to the University of Arizona, with a particular emphasis on boosting retention and providing access to higher education for students from lower-income and diverse families. The New Start program concludes with an academic conference featuring New Start student research projects.

ENGL 101/102: First-Year Composition I & II (Fall 2012, Spring 2013)
Taught a total of three sections, including two sections of Composition I and one section of Composition II, specialized to focus on critical thinking and writing research-driven work. In recognition of this sequence, I was nominated for the Writing Program's Ruth Gardner Teaching Award, which recognizes first-year teachers who had previously had college-level teaching experience before joining the University of Arizona Writing Program.
